Disconnected Touchpoints Across a Growing Footprint

As Starbucks expanded its South African footprint, customer interactions were happening in isolation. Physical store visits, digital touchpoints, and Wi-Fi sessions existed as disconnected data streams, each generating behavioural signals that no single system could interpret.

  • Fragmented customer identity. Point-of-sale transactions, app interactions, and in-store Wi-Fi sessions each captured partial views of the same customer. No unified profile existed.

  • Insufficient tools for behavioural engagement. Existing marketing tools lacked the sophistication for threshold-based, behavioural-driven engagement. Campaigns were generic rather than personalised.

  • Retrospective measurement only. Tracking programme effectiveness was backward-looking. There was no mechanism for real-time campaign adjustment or automated response to customer behaviour.

Deconstruct traditional marketing tactics and replace them with a dual-architecture system: a Customer Data Platform for intelligence and a Campaign Management Engine for automated execution, turning every customer interaction into a data point that drives personalised engagement.

Pre-transactional behavioural data captured through in-store Wi-Fi. Dwell time, visit frequency, and session patterns provided insight into customer intent before any purchase was made.

Campaign Management Engine

Automated, personalised campaign delivery built on Mendix. Threshold-based logic triggers contextual offers based on actual customer behaviour, not generic discounts applied uniformly.

Seamless POS Integration

Direct integration with the point-of-sale system ensuring campaign redemption and transactional data flow in both directions. Every redemption feeds back into the CDP for continuous profile enrichment.
